https://dsaf.si/asset/3F3xyhY6MAahyZ9qCThe exhibition Catlands Politics that runs at Carinarnica, a cultural hub and and artistic meeting point located in an abandoned border checkpoint between Slovenia and Italy, connecting the twin towns of Nova Gorica and Gorizia. The exhibition reveals the harsh reality of Europe's exclusive politics through the humorous cat-like symbolism of national flags, state institutions and signage. Filmmaker and visual artist Ana Čigon weaves elements of her latest animation, Catlands, and video interviews in which she discusses refugee policy with female experts.
Enclosing the spatial installation at Carinarnica is a panel image of the European Commission building, where visitors can watch clips from the animation and interviews with Aigul Hakimova, a member of the Infokolpa initiative, and Dr Mirjam Milharčič Hladnik, a sociologist and research associate at the Slovenian Migration Institute of the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
