An utopian vision of a distopian future.
The video installation Phony Towns is a satiric critique of the contemporary social and political changes that are happening in local context, in Europe and in the World, through digitally altered city landscapes. The video installation was designed in such a way that it can be changed according to the context in which it is shown (depending on location and/or new important social or political changes). The two video channels consist of several videos that show different places and range from local city landscapes (where the installation is exhibited) and traveling through broader geo-political spaces until it reaches the Universe. In Kapelica Gallery Ljubljana the videos were followed in this sequence: Ljubljana - Slovenia - Europe - World - Universe. Phony Towns considers social and political issues and even quantum physics to try to give an answer to the question Where we are and Where we are going?
Phoney Towns is a long runing project that is presented in different variations depending on the gallery space, production and contemporary sociopolitical developments. Part of this project and development is also the experimental film Phoney Sights.
